Southdale: the first mall in the nation

Southdale, the first enclosed mall in the nation.
|
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
In 1956, the first mall in America opened to the public.
Southdale, with 72 stores and 800,000 square feet, was the first of its
kind in offering climate-controlled shopping. It was also the first mall
to feature two competing department stores under the same roof.
TODAY'S
MALL
Anchored by Macy's and JC
Penney's, Southdale houses 130 stores, restaurants
and a movie theater. Over
15-million shoppers visit Southdale annually.
