Shopping itinerary: Downtown divas

Nicollet Avenue
|
MORNING
Get into the spirit with the devilishly good breakfasts at Hell's Kitchen, or grab a table at Key's Café for classic egg and pancake combos. Either way, you're just steps from some of the city's best shopping on Nicollet Mall.
At the south end of this pedestrian-only mall you'll find Crate and Barrel, Polo and the two-level flagship Target. Snap a pic with the Mary Tyler Moore statue at the corner of 7th and Nicollet before heading inside to Macy's for eight floors of fashion.
AFTERNOON
Take a break and re-fuel with a late lunch. For knock-out burgers and old-school ambience, try Ike's Food and Cocktails. You can also order elegant salads and specials at Basil's in the landmark IDS Tower.
After lunch, stroll up the block to Gaviidae Common, a two-block collection of shops anchored by Saks' Off Fifth and Neiman Marcus.
Find contemporary home accessories at Finn Style, and great gift ideas at the new Romeo and Juliet Shop. Be sure to scour the racks at Saks' Off-Fifth outlet for the bargain-hunting fashionista in your group.
EVENING
Check into one of downtown's boutique hotels like the ultra-modern Graves 601 or the sumptuous Grand Hotel. Then celebrate the day over dinner.
Vincent offers impeccable French classics, which Chambers Kitchen serves chef Jean-Georges Vongerichte's Asian fusion creations along with museum-quality art. For first-rate food in a laid-back atmosphere, try the New American cuisine at 112 Eatery.
Still have energy? Head to Bellanotte for decadent cocktails in a lush setting, or catch some great jazz at the Dakota.
